The CMA CGM Group, a Shipping Australia member, recently announced a deal with shipbuilder CSSC Group. CMA CGM has placed an order for:

  • 6 LNG-powered containerships with a capacity of 13,000 TEUs (Twenty-foot equivalent unit),
  • 6 LNG-powered containerships with a capacity of 15,000 TEUs,
  • 10 VLSFO-powered containerships with a capacity of 5,500 TEUs

This order aims at accommodating market growth, the company said, adding that the vessels are expected to join the Group’s fleet between 2023 and 2024.

The group has a diverse fleet of more than 560 vessels, which has a capacity of 2.70 million TEU and it transports about 21.6 million TEU a year. CMA CGM approximately 420 of the world’s ports.
