Joint concentrated inspection campaign to get underway on wages and seafarer employment agreements

Port State Controllers around the world will launch a “Concentrated Inspection Campaign (CIC) on Crew Wages and Seafarers’ Employment Agreements,” this weekend (Sunday 01 September 2024).

The purpose of the campaign is to raise awareness of crew wages and seafarer employment agreements and to verify that ships are compliant.

The inspection campaign runs from 01 September to 30 November 2024 and will examine a range of areas.

A ship will only be subject to one inspection during the campaign.

Port State Control officers will use a questionnaire to assess that crew wages, seafarer employment agreements and financial securities comply with relevant Maritime Labour Convention requirements.

In non-conformities are found, actions by the Port State Control may range from recording a deficiency up to detaining the ship and requiring the deficiency to be corrected.

The results of the campaign will be analysed and presented to the International Labor Organization and the International Maritime Organization.
