On 10 February 2023, Oldendorff Carriers celebrated the namegiving of its latest Japanese capesize newbuilding, the “Gina Oldendorff”, which was named after Australian mining figure, Gina Rinehart. Mrs Rinehart is the executive chair of the mining company Hancock Prospecting.

Mrs Rinehart christened the ship at the name-giving ceremony at Namura Shipyard, Imari, Japan

Sister-ship “Alice Oldendorff”, was delivered from Namura Shipbuilding in November.

Both Capesize ships will be retrofitted with “Yara” Exhaust Gas Cleaning Systems in China.

The company ordered the two 182,000 deadweight vessels in 2021. Their very low fuel consumption will also mean lower CO2 emissions.

In October, Oldendorff received the first of twelve 82,200 dwt Kamsarmax newbuildings from Hantong Shipyard in Nantong, China, which were also ordered in 2021, of which 6 of the 12 Kamsarmax ships were sold to another shipowner.

The improved “Sdari-82k-2020” design consumes only 22 tons of fuel per day, based on a ballast speed of 14 knots and a laden speed of 12 knots.
