Today is International Day of the Seafarer, recognising the contribution that the humble seafarer makes to our everyday lives. Seafarers are required to carry out their duties in a constantly changing, challenging and often dangerous environment, in order that the lifeblood of our economy and international trade continues to flow.
This year’s theme is “I Am On Board with gender equality”. You can follow the IMO’s social medial campaign through hashtag #I Am On Board.
# I Am On Board” can be used by anyone engaging in the campaign, male or female, to show their solidarity for gender equality in seafaring.
This year’s theme is closely aligned with the IMO World Maritime Day theme, Empowering Women in the Maritime Community.
