Withdrawal of protected industrial action at Svitzer-serviced ports

Towage provider Svitzer has welcomed the decision of the Maritime Union of Australia to withdraw its protected industrial action in ports covered by Svitzer Australia’s National Towage Enterprise Agreement as of midday, Wednesday 20 January 2021.

The following notices were withdrawn from midday yesterday:

  • PIA notice #22 regarding bans on overtime; use of Svitzer Australia’s planned maintenance system Sertica; use of Svitzer Australia’s online training courses; and
  • PIA notice #24 regarding bans on the performance of work on Maersk shipping line vessels.

Commenting on the decision, Svitzer Australia Managing Director, Nicolaj Noes, said: “Svitzer is committed to bargaining with the unions to develop an agreement that provides a fair outcome for employees and enables us to continue to provide safe and reliable services for our customers and ports”.

Svitzer Australia National Towage Enterprise Agreement covered ports include:

  • Adelaide – SA
  • Albany – WA
  • Bowen – QLD
  • Brisbane – QLD
  • Cairns (including services for Mourilyan) – QLD
  • Eden – NSW
  • Fremantle – WA
  • Geelong – VIC
  • Geraldton – WA
  • Kwinana – WA
  • Melbourne – VIC
  • Newcastle – NSW
  • Port Kembla – NSW
  • Port Pirie – SA,
  • Spencer Gulf (inc Whyalla)
  • Sydney (Port Jackson and Port Botany) – NSW
  • Westernport – VIC
