Quaylink is a $240m project at Devonport. Berthing and terminal upgrades will enable use by larger vessels, increasing freight capacity for Bass Strait operators by 40% and an additional 160,000 passengers per year will be able to enter the terminal.
Devonport is being upgraded to support growth in the Bass Strait for the next 50 years, especially as the existing infrastructure is said to be nearing the end of its useful life.
Although there is a dedicated marketing and public-relations focused website, it appears to have little detail other than statements that there will be two roll-on roll-off berths and a multi-user berth.
The existing Berth 3 will be upgraded first to allow Bass Strait operators to continue as normal and the the TT Line will be moved to berth 3.
A new vessel port monitoring system, solar technology and upgrades to improve navigation will also be installed.
Preparatory works began this year and the bulk of construction will start in 2022 with an expected completion date of 2027.
