Dr Kerry Chant, the Chief Health Officer in New South Wales, has signed an order allowing seafarers to leave a ship and “go further than 13 metres” from the vessel to get vaccinated against COVID-19.
However, the seafarer must stay in the port unless, due to bad weather, NSW Health allows the seafarer to leave port o get a vaccination.
The seafarer must travel directly to / from the vaccination area and, if not walking, must travel in a vehicle provided by the Mission to Seafarers. He or she must also wear a surgical mask, comply with the instructions of NSW Health or the NSW Ports Authority and must return to ship “as soon as reasonably practicable,” after receiving the vaccination.
