Victoria’s Minister for Ports and Freight, Melissa Horne, yesterday paid tribute to the resilience of the global shipping industry.
“The pandemic triggered enormous disruption in your industry. It caused delays. It generated friction. It disrupted shipping schedules and produced a level of chaos in the global supply chain never seen before in peacetime,” Minister Horne said.
And she then declared: “But your industry overcame those challenges. The Victorian Government recognises that. And I recognise that”.
Noting that ocean shipping is a critical part of the supply chain that, “really delivered,” Minister Horne said that, despite the enormous challenges of the pandemic, that the ocean shipping industry “adapted and kept shelves stocked and it maintained essential supplies”.
Minister Horne was speaking at the Luncheon of Shipping Australia’s Victorian State Committee, which was held at the Kooyong Lawn Tennis Club.
