Shipping Australia is delighted to welcome major land-transport company Aurizon as a member!
Aurizon is Australia’s largest rail-based transport business and an ASX-listed company.
More than 5,400 employees support the company to safely transport around 250 million tonnes of Australian commodities each year, connecting miners, primary producers, and industry with international and domestic markets.
Aurizon’s bulk business provides integrated supply chain services, including rail and road transportation, port services and material handling for a range of mining, metal, industrial and agricultural customers throughout Queensland, New South Wales, South Australia, the Northern Territory and Western Australia.
Aurizon has a proven capability to move bulk commodities such as iron ore, cement, bauxite, alumina, base metals, grain, livestock, fertiliser and dangerous goods safely and efficiently.
The company is also well-positioned in markets serving the global uptake of electric vehicles, telecommunications and renewable energy infrastructure that is driving demand for Australian resources such as cobalt, copper and lithium.
Aurizon operates stevedoring services within six ports, including Townsville, Cairns, Mackay, Gladstone, Port Alma and Newcastle and has export sites in Aurizon Port Services (APS) Townsville, and Newcastle and now at the Port of Gladstone.
Aurizon Bulk East Commercial Manager, Matthew Gemmell, said that Aurizon is able to provide holistic supply chain solutions for customers, supported by a regional workforce and locally-based facilities across Australia.
“Aurizon own and operate our own fleet and infrastructure, allowing us to work with customers to design, implement and fully manage end-to-end supply chain solutions resulting in speed and flexibility in delivering goods to market,” Mr Gemmell said.
“We are also excited to announce that Aurizon has a new Liebherr 550c Mobile Harbour Crane arriving in early 2023 at our facility at the Port of Gladstone which will expand our services to include stevedoring, warehousing and transportation (with direct connectivity to road and rail networks) in the Gladstone region.
“Aurizon joined SAL to broaden and deepen our maritime relationships. We know that relationships are important in the maritime industry, and we look forward to growing our industry networks with the support of SAL.”
Shipping Australia CEO Captain Melwyn Noronha enthusiastically welcomed Aurizon as a new member.
“We are very fortunate to have Aurizon join us as a member. Their input and insight will be invaluable to Shipping Australia in our advocacy of policies that benefit the industry. We look forward to working with Aurizon.
“And, of course, every new company that joins Shipping Australia strengthens the association and a broadly-represented industry can be successful in advocating for policies that benefit all the people of Australia,” Captain Noronha said.
Shipping Australia is an industry association that represents Australia’s international ocean shipping industries. We have approximately 30 full members, comprising shipping companies, shipping agents and towage providers. We have over 40 corporate associate members, which provide services to the maritime industry in Australia. These services include terminal operations, pilotage, management consultancy, and legal advice.
Australia imports and exports the equivalent of about 8 million twenty-foot shipping containers a year. Shipping Australia members handle the vast majority of these boxes. They also handle a considerable volume of our bulk commodities and vehicle import trades.
Our members employ more than 3,000 Australians.
