In July 2023, Pacific Asia Express was rebranded to PIL Australia. SAL caught up with PIL Australia’s Managing Director Andrew Maguire and Executive Chairman Barry Misiurak to discuss this rebranding.

SAL: Thank you for joining us today. Let’s start with the recent announcement regarding the renaming of Pacific Asia Express to PIL Australia. Can you share the reasons behind this decision and what it means for the company?

Barry Misiurak (Executive Chairman, PIL Australia): Certainly. The decision to rename Pacific Asia Express to PIL Australia reflects our commitment to streamlining our brand identity in Australia. We’ve been representing Pacific International Lines (PIL) in Australia since 1990, and this rebranding aligns us more closely with the PIL global brand. It’s a strategic move that will help strengthen our market position by presenting a single, unified brand identity to our customers and partners in Australia.

Andrew Maguire (Managing Director, PIL Australia): Additionally, it’s important to note that this change is primarily a name change. The shareholders, management team, our core operations, and our key personnel all remain unchanged. This transition is about reinforcing our presence in Australia under a clear and recognizable brand name.

SAL: Can you provide a brief overview of the transition timeline?

Andrew Maguire: The renaming to PIL Australia became official on July 12, 2023. We understand the importance of a seamless transition, and we have updated all marketing and external materials to reflect our new name. Our core operational aspects, including ABN/ACN, bank accounts, addresses, contracts, and key personnel’s contact information, all remain unchanged.

SAL: What do you see as the main benefits of this rebranding for PIL Australia Pty Ltd and its stakeholders?

Andrew Maguire: The primary benefit is a stronger, more cohesive brand identity in Australia. This will help us better represent PIL’s global presence and expertise in the region. It also simplifies our communications and interactions with our customers and partners, making it easier for them to identify and engage with us.

Barry Misiurak: Additionally, it underscores our commitment to the Australian market. We’ve been here for over three decades, and this rebranding reaffirms our dedication to serving our customers and contributing to the growth of the Australian shipping industry.

SAL: Finally, what message would you like to convey to your valued customers and suppliers as you move forward with this change?

Barry Misiurak: We want to express our gratitude for the continued support and trust that our customers and suppliers have placed in us over the years. This rebranding represents an exciting new chapter for us, and we look forward to continuing to work together towards our aim of “Driving Connectivity”.

SAL: Thank you both for providing insight into this important development. We appreciate your time and look forward to seeing the continued growth and success of PIL Australia.
