The first MO32 Checklist Development Workshop, in collaboration with AMSA, was held on 20 March at the Shipping Australia office.
The MO32 checklist development is part of an initiative project by Shipping Australia (SAL) to create a reference tool and educational guide to assist all types of vessels (container, bulk, break-bulk, tanker, Ro-Ro vessels) in complying with Marine Order 32 (MO32) and the Managing Risks in Stevedoring – Code of Practice, especially those new to Australian waters.
The project aims to consolidate and clarify existing standards and guidelines into a simplified and accessible resource along pictorial examples, particularly for vessels new to Australian waters.
For this purpose, Shipping Australia invited stakeholders from different maritime industry sectors, including AMSA, Safe Work Australia, shipping lines, stevedores, surveyors, and related stakeholders, to participate in this initiative.
So far, Shipping Australia has held few working group meetings with the involvement of working group members, and the first workshop for developing the MO32 checklist was held on 20 March at the SAL office, with the presence of representatives from AMSA, shipping lines, stevedores, port service providers, and surveyors.
The workshop focused on developing and structuring the “Preliminary MO32 Checklist”, identifying key compliance areas, and discussing guidance for ships and Masters, with valuable feedback from attendees.
Further workshops to progress the MO32 checklist will be held in the coming months.
