Shipping Australia donates $15,000 from SAL Gala 2024 to Mission to Seafarers Brisbane

By Shipping Australia

In a generous display of community support, Shipping Australia has donated $15,000 to the Mission to Seafarers Brisbane, a charitable organization that provides crucial welfare services to the seafaring community. The donation was raised through the proceeds of the 2024 Shipping Australia Gala, a prestigious event held annually to celebrate and support the maritime industry.

The $15,000 contribution has gone towards the Mission to Seafarers Brisbane’s new bus, which plays an essential role in transporting seafarers to and from local amenities, providing them with vital connection to the community during their often lengthy and isolating periods at sea.
The Mission to Seafarers Brisbane is a cornerstone of support for sailors passing through the port of Brisbane, offering a range of services including welfare visits, counselling, and recreational facilities. With the seafaring profession remaining one of the most demanding and isolating, the organization’s efforts are instrumental in enhancing the wellbeing of thousands of seafarers each year.

At the Shipping Australia Gala 2024, attendees from various sectors of the maritime industry came together to celebrate the hard work and achievements of Australia’s shipping community. The event also served as an opportunity to reflect on the importance of supporting organizations like the Mission to Seafarers Brisbane, which play a key role in providing a sense of belonging and care for individuals who spend much of their time away from home.

The $15,000 donation is a testament to the maritime industry’s commitment to giving back to the communities it serves. With a long history of providing aid to seafarers, the Mission to Seafarers Brisbane will use the funds to ensure that their bus service continues to support the welfare of these essential workers.

QLD Shipping Australia’s Chairman, Ajaz Mir, expressed gratitude for the generous contributions made by attendees at the gala, noting that the donation reflects the industry’s strong sense of responsibility to those who work tirelessly to ensure the smooth flow of global trade.

“This donation is a small way of showing our appreciation for the hard work of seafarers, and we are proud to support the Mission to Seafarers Brisbane in its efforts to care for them,” he said.
