Shipping Australia meets IMO Secretary General

Shipping Australia was pleased to meet the IMO Secretary General during his visit to Australia recently.

SAL CEO Capt Melwyn Noronha attended an evening briefing and welcome dinner, while the secretariat staff attended a Round Table hosted by the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications, Sport and the Arts.

Discussions were wide ranging on the topic of decarbonisation, including elements of the IMO’s Net Zero Plan by 2050 and the related policy work at the IMO. Also discussed was gender equity and diversity in the sector, with a fascinating presentation on the outreach and communications strategies in the aviation industry aimed at attracting, and developing, a diverse and highly-skilled aviation workforce.
