Mitsubishi Shipbuilding, Imabari Shipbuilding, “K” Line, MOL, NYK Line and NSY have concluded a Memorandum of Understanding to establish a standard design framework to develop and carry out the initial design of liquefied CO2 carriers and next generational alternative fuel ships using greener fuels.
The company, MILES, will operate as a platform and will be responsible for carrying out the initial design of ships so that other Japanese shipyards will be able to carry out the functional and production design based on those initial designs.
“K” LINE, MOL, and NYK Line invested in MILES to accelerate the cross-industry collaboration; JMU and NSY have likewise decided to invest in MILEs to strengthen the collaboration.
“Through this MoU, the companies will aim to contribute to the further progress of a sustainable carbon neutral society,” a “K” Line statement reads.
In other “K” Line related news, the group has decided to donate two million yen via The Rayomar Outreach Foundation, a charitable organization established by the Rayomar Group (“K” Line’s business partner in the Philippines), to help the recovery after the Cebu earthquake in September and two consecutive typhoons.
