Inchcape Shipping Services expands in Indonesia

Inchcape Shipping Services (ISS), a global provider of port agency and marine services, has opened new offices in Indonesia – one each in Merak and Dumai.

Opening offices in the Merak and Dumai port areas means that Inchcape has established a presence in two high-activity industrial port clusters, each handling approximately 150 port calls annually, the agency services provider says, adding, these locations are critical for bulk and tanker operations, supporting energy, industrial, and plantation sectors.

The Merak port area, led by Haroen Al Rasyid, covering ports Cigading, Ciwandan, and Anyer, is a well-established industrial cluster strategically positioned for liquid bulk and dry bulk shipping activities. The ports handle a wide range of commodities including chemicals, iron ore, limestone, steelmaking raw materials, refined petroleum products, ethylene, and bulk wheat. With dedicated industrial jetties and terminals, the area ensures efficient cargo operations for heavy industries, consistent vessel calls, and reliable turnaround for bulk carriers and tankers.

The Dumai port area, managed by Ahmad Firdaus, located along the Malacca Strait and including ports Lubuk Gaung and Pelintung, is a key cluster for tanker and bulk vessel operations. The ports mainly handle crude palm oil (CPO), palm oil products, fuel oil, petroleum products, and chemicals, supporting regular export and domestic cargo movements for the energy and plantation industries.

Both offices will provide a comprehensive suite of services, including full port agency, customs clearance, P&I matters, crew logistics services, husbandry services, bunkering and fuel operations, and protective agency.

Galih Wicaksono, General Manager – Indonesia, commented: “Our mission is clear: to be close to our customers and present where their operations take place. The opening of these offices in Merak and Dumai strengthens our ability to deliver exceptional service and local expertise in two of Indonesia’s most critical port clusters.”

Too many standards, too much red tape, not enough lifetime to deal with it
Multiple, diverging, standards are not helpful for a global industry like shipping. Nor, indeed, are they generally good for society either.
