The Port of Melbourne (PoM), together with the Intermodal Terminal Company (ITC), are inviting importers, shipping lines and freight forwarders to register their interest in a limited-volume start-up incentive program in which the PoM will offer $100 per TEU and $200 per FEU for import containers moved by rail from the port to ITC’s Melbourne Intermodal Terminal (MIT).
Delivered as part of the Port Rail Shuttle Network (PRSN) initiative, this program reflects a shared commitment between the Victorian Government, the PoM and ITC to growing rail’s share of the freight task, strengthening supply-chain resilience, and supporting Victoria’s ESG and sustainability objectives.
Eligible participants will utilise a new rail shuttle service from the Port of Melbourne to the MIT in Somerton—located 22 km north of the port—providing a fast, reliable and toll-free alternative to road, avoiding upcoming West Gate Tunnel tolls and bypassing the most congested parts of the metropolitan road network.
As the start-up incentive is strictly limited in volume, the Intermodal Terminal Company and the Port of Melbourne encourage interested parties to respond promptly to requests for Expressions of Interest.
