Shipping Australia’s Chair, Phil Holmes – a member of the Australian shipping industry’s leadership and an expert in shipping – has reviewed a variety of events in the international shipping environment.
(For the domestic review, please see Capt Noronha’s review).
“The year just gone was the year of Trumpian trade wars and tariffs. How do I even begin to review that? It’s just so hard to even know where to start. Well, maybe we can begin with imports and the Trump tariffs. If you can think of an import, it’s probably been Trumpariffed,” Mr Holmes writes, adding that, unfortunately, the U.S. economy has shrunk in the long-run.
He also discusses:
- international trade
- economic impacts
- policy change in Washington
- protecting the environment
- technology, digitalisation and cyber risk
- Red Sea disruption
