Shipping Australia today (Tuesday 13 October 2026) held one of its concluding workshops for our MO32 Guidance workshops!
Shipping Australia began this nationwide industry-government project in March 2024 to create a reference tool and educational guide that will help all types of vessels (container, bulk, break-bulk, tanker, Ro-Ro vessels) to comply with Marine Order 32 (MO32), which relates to the safety of cargo handling equipment and safe loading / unloading, and the Managing Risks in Stevedoring – Code of Practice.
It should be especially helpful for crew and ships that are new to Australian waters. Our goal is to help crews and ships to improve their preparedness for regulatory compliance prior to arrival at Australian ports. That will contribute to safer workplaces and it will support our members by helping to boost operational productivity by reducing ship turnaround times and by reducing exposure to non-compliance.
The project began because we had repeatedly heard from the shipping industry that ships were being delayed during loading and discharge because of a lack of clarity and / or confusion around Marine Order 32 and the Model Stevedoring Code of Practice.
Shipping Australia’s Mehrangiz Shahbakhsh has led the project and she has been liaising and coordinating with experts from across the industry.
We will look forward to unveiling the project to the industry in due course.
Shipping Australia would like to thank all of the experts from across industry who have generously donated their time and expertise to our project.
