Singapore-headquartered premium multipurpose and project cargo carrier AAL Shipping (AAL) has delivered a cargo of heavy lift heat recovery steam generator (HRSG) components for Keppel Infrastructure’s 600 MW combined-cycle gas turbine (CCGT) power plant under construction on Jurong Island in Singapore – a site that will become the first hydrogen-ready and most advanced facility of its kind in the country.
The more than 7,000 cubic metre shipment was particularly significant to AAL, with this green energy project being of national importance to its home market of Singapore. A total of 15 components were shipped by AAL to Singapore from Masan, South Korea, on a single sailing, with individual unit weights exceeding 300 tonnes.
Located in the Sakra sector of Jurong Island, the Keppel Sakra Cogeneration Plant (KSC Plant) is expected to offset up to 220,000 tonnes of CO2 annually. It will initially operate with natural gas as the primary fuel (with the capacity to operate on fuels with 30 percent hydrogen content) and will be capable of shifting to run entirely on hydrogen. The plant is expected to commence commercial operations in the first half of 2026.
Yuko Kimura, Chief Representative of AAL Shipping Japan, who coordinated the shipment, said: “As a Singapore-headquartered company, we are delighted to be involved in this important local project that will support the country’s international climate commitment to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. “As Singapore’s economy grows so too will the demand for reliable green energy,” added Kimura. “The energy sector in Singapore accounts for almost 40 percent of the country’s carbon emissions and projects like these to decarbonise electricity generation is at the core of the country’s Green Plan.”
