Senator McKenzie is the Nationals Senator for Victoria, the Leader of the Nationals in the Senate, and the Shadow Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development.

Senator McKenzie has chaired several committees including the Senate Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade committee as well as the committee for Joint Senate Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade committee. She has served on numerous committees throughout her Parliamentary career.

She has also served extensively as a Cabinet Minister in Federal Government, and has served in a number of Ministerial portfolios including Agriculture, and also Emergency Management among many more.
