Members of the Customs Brokers and Forwarders’ Council have formally and officially agreed to merge with the Australian Federation of International Forwarders.

In late April, the AFIF advised that CBFCA members have endorsed the proposal that AFIF and CBFCA will merge into one body. The new entity will be known as the “International Forwarders and Customs Brokers Association of Australia” and it will use the abbreviation “IFCBAA”.

There will be an interim board comprising five directors each from AFIF and the CBFCA which will be in place for two years from July 2020 to July 2022.

AFIF Chairman Paul Golland said “I believe a single peak body is something industry has been wanting for a number of years. It allows us to speak for industry with a single voice when dealing with Governments, airlines, shipping lines, suppliers and stakeholders in the international logistics supply chain. This has to be advantageous for all of our industry. “

Back on 19 February, the AFIF passed a board resolution that set up the name change and the creation of the new board. However, CBFCA members would need to endorse the proposal before any merger could take place.

Shipping Australia understands that there have been several previous steps toward merging although these (obviously) did not proceed.
