Towage specialist, Engage Marine (a Shipping Australia member), has awarded a tug-building contract for three new tugs to Damen Shipyards Group.
The marine engineering group will deliver three ASD Tug 3212, a Damen design.
Engage Marine will operate the three tugs to provide towage services for the Port of Abbot Point. The company has recently been awarded a Non-Exclusive Towage Licence by North Queensland Bulk Ports Corporation.
The ASD Tugs offer 85 tonnes bollard pull (a measure of power of tugs; it measures the maximum amount of force that a tug could exert on a bollard assuming perfect sea conditions).
As a vessel from Damen’s standardised portfolio, the shipbuilder constructs the ASD Tug 3212 and the engineering company is due to deliver the three tugs to Engage Marine in Q3 this year.
