Gladstone Ports Corporation requests for Registrations of Interest in a container terminal development opportunity for the Port of Gladstone

Gladstone Ports Corporation (GPC) is calling on the private sector to help deliver a transformative infrastructure project at the Port of Gladstone, with Registrations of Interest (ROI) now open for the development of a new container terminal.

The Queensland Government Owned Corporation is calling for Australian or international investors, operators and stevedores to submit scalable development concepts for a 54-hectare site at Port Central in the Priority Port of Gladstone.

The site offers deepwater access, a sheltered harbour and direct road and rail freight connectivity.

GPC Chief Executive Officer Andrew Johnson said the development was expected to play a key role in shaping the future of container trade in Queensland, stimulating regional supply chains, creating jobs, and improving freight access for producers across the State.

“This is a significant opportunity for industry to invest in one of Australia’s most strategically positioned ports,” Mr Johnson said.

“Gladstone has long been identified as the ideal location for a new container terminal, and the decision to move ahead marks a significant milestone in the port’s development.”

“This is a compelling investment opportunity, and we welcome submissions from experienced proponents who are ready to capitalise on Gladstone’s growth trajectory.”

The development will require necessary land reclamation, berth pocket dredging, construction of land-backed wharves and quay structures, terminal yards, equipment operational buildings and supporting systems.

Located 525 kilometres north of Brisbane, the Port of Gladstone incorporates seven main trade localities and 20 operational wharves. It is the main export gateway for Central Queensland’s resource and industrial sectors, handling more than 117 million tonnes of throughput a year across 30 different commodities, including coal, liquefied natural gas, bauxite, alumina, aluminium, petroleum, cement and agriculture.

GPC will collaborate with investors to deliver high-capacity container infrastructure that enhances supply chain resilience, unlocks new trade pathways and drives sustainable economic growth for Central Queensland and beyond.

Interested parties can review the Gladstone Container Terminal Opportunity materials and submit responses via the Queensland Government’s procurement platform at www.vendorpanel.com.au/publictenders.aspx, using reference number OS25300373.

The ROI closes 3 March 2026.

Too many standards, too much red tape, not enough lifetime to deal with it
Multiple, diverging, standards are not helpful for a global industry like shipping. Nor, indeed, are they generally good for society either.
