The “Global Ro-Ro Community”, comprising the major car carriers and a class society, have announced guidelines for calculating Greenhouse Gas emission intensity for Ro-Ro ships, which introduce a common calculation method. The work has been done in conjunction with the international non-profit organisation, “Smart Freight Centre”.
The Guidelines will enable “shippers to accurately measure Scope 3 emissions, and will further promote decarbonization in the shipping industry,” the Community says.
The new model complies with ISO 14083 and the Global Logistics Emissions Council framework.
“In the future, the SFC plans to collect actual data on environmental performance on a ship-by-ship basis and publish average high-precision emission intensity data for the industry,” the Community says.
The Global Ro-Ro Community (GRC)* comprises Eastern Car Liner Ltd., Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd., Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd., Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha, Wallenius Wilhelmsen ASA, and ClassNK.
