A CEO-search is now underway at the Australian Maritime Safety Authority.
Current CEO, Mick Kinley, announced at the end of 2023 that he would retire at the end of his current term, which concludes in September this year.
Executive recruitment company, Derwent, is now handling the search.
If you want to apply, you will need “outstanding” leadership and “proven” CEO or senior executive experience.
Reporting to the AMSA Board, the new CEO will be expected to deliver strong business, governance, and operational performance, ensure finance sustainability, and embrace and adopt innovation and new technologies. You will also need to understand the application of government policies in a statutory authority; have experience or understanding of the role of a Commonwealth regulator; have exceptional managerial abilities; experiencing “interfacing” with government at a ministerial, departmental head, and senior bureaucratic level; and you will probably need to know a think or to about the maritime and transport industry, although, interestingly, the candidate pack says this is “not essential”.
AMSA’s Chief Executive Officer is appointed on a term of up to five years, on terms and conditions set by the Remuneration Tribunal. The Chief Executive Officer is currently classified as a Principal Executive Officer Band D.
According to the Australian Government Transparency Portal, the current rate for the CEO role is AUD$537,928 (not inclusive of super).
