Port Phillip Sea Pilots celebrate 185 years, christen new boat

By Shipping Australia

Shipping Australia was pleased to attend the celebrations of the Port Phillip Sea Pilot company, which celebrated 185 years in business recently.

The pilots also christened their newest pilot boat, the Torquay.

The Torquay, a Pantocarene ORC self-righting design by Hart Marine, is said to be the most technologically advanced pilot launch on the water, reducing fuel burn and emission by 30% when compared to conventional vessels, “helping PPSP lead the way towards net zero without compromising on performance or safety,” the company said in a statement.

Guests of honour were the State Member for Bellarine, Alison Marchant MP, and the Councillor at the Borough of Queenscliffe, Ross Ebbels, who performed the ceremonial christening of the vessel.
