Singapore’s Maritime & Port Authority (MPA) has announced a collaboration with Amazon Web Service (an Amazon.com company) to support the maritime industry’s digital and green transformation.
“MPA will tap on AWS services including cloud, artificial intelligence (AI), and digital twins to enhance the industry’s efficiency, safety, and sustainability outcomes,” a statement from the MPA reads.
The two entities will develop a maritime artificial intelligence and machine learning digital hub that will use the benefits of the Amazon IT systems that will enable the maritime industry to pilot AI and generative AI capabilities on the green and digital shipping corridors to optimise routes and fuel consumption, carbon emissions accounting, and just-in-time arrivals.
Singapore will also use Amazon’s Sustainable Data Initiative to accelerate sustainability research and innovation by minimising the cost and time required to acquire and analyse large sustainability datasets.
The two will also carry out training, incubation initiatives, immersion programmes to equip maritime industry employees and stakeholders. The first training programme is expected to roll out by the end of 2024.
