Shipping Australia notes the announcement, in or about Monday 16 October 2023, by Victoria’s Minister for Port and Freight, Melissa Horne, of the existence of the “Voluntary Code of Practice for managing disruptions in the Port of Melbourne container supply chain”.
Shipping Australia neither endorses nor rejects this Voluntary Code; we have a neutral stance as to the Code. We do not consider that the industry as a whole, or any part of the industry, or any individual companies, businesses or persons, are obliged to act, or to refrain from acting, or to alter any aspect of their business in any particular way by the mere fact that the Code of Practice exists or by the fact that the State Government of Victoria has announced the existence of the Code of Practice.
Any person, business, or company carrying out any logistics related activity at, or through, the Port of Melbourne, in any way shape or form howsoever defined, may freely choose to adopt – or to not adopt – any part of the Code of Practice, or the full Code of Practice, as they wish.
Any person, business, or company carrying out any logistics related activity at, or through, the Port of Melbourne, in any way shape or form howsoever defined should not rely upon the content of the Code of Practice in setting any aspect of their current or future business behaviour.
