Leading towage provider Svitzer Australia has announced leadership changes.
New Regional Chief People Officer
James Comer (pictured) has joined as Regional Chief People Officer. He brings over 20 years of HR executive experience from major companies that also include organisations like Cisco Technologies and Hewlett Packard. “We are excited about the future and look forward to the positive impact James will have on our team,” Videlina Georgieva, Managing Director – Svitzer Australia, said.
Tully Barnes departs After a decade of service
Svitzer has also announced the pending departure of Tully Barnes, General Manager – West, who will be taking up a new opportunity with a port Authority. “At the same time, we extend our heartfelt thanks to Tully for his service and wish him the best in his future endeavours,” Ms Georgieva said. Tully ends his service with Svitzer on 28 March 2025. A search process is now underway for the vacant GM-West position.
New electric tug
In other Svitzer-related news, the company has announced that it has ordered a new ASD electric tug from Sanmar Shipyards. The tug, designed by naval architect Robert Allan, for use in the strait between Denmark and Sweden. The 70-ton bollard pull (BP) will have a 1,818 kWh battery and two back-up generators. The company stated that is has been experiencing growing demand for green towage services in Scandinavia.
