
Tank storage company Vopak has announced that it is investigating the strategic options for its terminals in Australia, which may include include continued operations or divestment. The outcome of the process is currently unknown and no further details have been released by the company.
Reports in financially-focused media suggest that the company is taking sounding from the market by appointing investment bankers to explore a sale and have distributed a short flyer.
Vopak offers tank storage for a range of chemicals including new energy and related products (e.g. hydrogen and carbon), conventional energy (liquefied petroleum gases and liquefied natural gases), petrochemicals, other chemicals, and crude oil among other substances.
At the end of 2020, Vopak operated 70 terminals in 23 countries and had a tank storage capacity of 35.6 million cubic metres. It had a full time equivalent of 5,637 employees.
In Darwin, the company operates a 21-tank / 173,583 cubic metre storage facility in the East Arm, Berrimah. It offers a range of tanks from 250 cubic metres to 18,000 cubic metres including coated steel, mild steel and temperature controlled for the storage of petroleum products, other chemicals and vegetable oils. There is one berth at its facility and the draught is 13.0 metres.
In Sydney, it offers 29 tanks with a total capacity of 371,650 cubic metres. Tanks range from 2,000 cubic metres to 26,400 cubic metres and are either coated or mild steel. Storage is offered for petroleum products, biodiesel, ethanol and bitumen. There are two berths at its facility and there is a 14.0 metre draught.
