Shipping Australia is sad to note that there continues to be disruptive strike action by the unions during the current health and economic crisis.
A notice of Protected Industrial Action was issued by the Maritime Union of Australia to towage provider Svitzer Australia earlier this week with industrial action yesterday as follows:
- a stoppage of work for 24 hours duration commencing at 7:00 am on Thursday 26 November 2020 in Fremantle;
- a stoppage of work for 24 hours duration commencing at 8:00 am on Thursday 26 November 2020 in Kwinana;
- a stoppage of work for 4 hours duration commencing at 10:00 am on Thursday 26 November 2020 in Sydney.
In an update to customers, Svitzer said: “This additional targeted protected industrial action will only cause further uncertainty and disruption to our colleagues, customers and stakeholders in these ports at a critical time when we need to keep Australia moving. We are currently reviewing schedules and crewing requirements to minimise any potential disruption”.
