Shipping Australia is pleased to announce that it will be convening a webinar on the wreck removal convention (known as the The Nairobi International Convention on the Removal of Wrecks (2007) or “the Nairobi Convention”).
The Nairobi Convention creates a set of uniform international rules aimed at ensuring the prompt and effective removal of shipwrecks within a country’s exclusive economic zone. The Convention looks at responsibility for wreck removal, what measures can be taken and how it can be enforced. Tricky matters such as who pays for what are also tackled by the Convention.
To be held on Thursday, 5 May from 1pm to 2pm (AEST), the webinar will feature analysis and views from Australian experts in the field.
Maritime law arbitrator, mediator, dispute resolution lawyer and international law lecturer, Peter McQueen will be your host.
Sparke Helmore partner, lawyer, litigator and shipping law expert, Michelle Taylor, will provide a lawyer’s perspective.
Marcus John, managing director of the Sydney branch of global maritime insurer TT Club, and, the Sydney branch of Thomas Miller – an international provider of global insurance services – will be present to provide expert insight and case studies from the P&I Club perspective.
An Australian government representative will provide insight into the government’s position on ratification.
The event will include opportunities for questions and answers.
