Towage provider Engage Marine has announced its first operation in the Northern Territory, for a client based on Groote Eylandt.
Groote is about 650km to the south east of Darwin, and it is the largest island in the Gulf of Carpentaria. The island is also a well known location for manganese, a hard and brittle metal that is used to create alloys of steel which improves strength and resistance to wear and tear.
Commenting on the news, Engage Marine said in a statement that: “This milestone reflects Engage Marine’s expertise in delivering bespoke towage solutions, particularly in remote regions. With this expansion, Engage Marine’s footprint in Northern Australia continues to grow, soon spanning from Wyndham in Western Australia to Cairns in Queensland. This new contract is part of Engage Marine’s broader expansion strategy, strengthening its service network across Northern Australia. Engage Marine already provides towage and marine services in Wyndham, Whyalla, Abbot Point, Townsville, and Cairns, ensuring safe and efficient port operations for a range of industries”.
Engage Marine provides towage services (under the banner of its Westug entity) at Dampier, Cape Lambert and Cape Cuvier. It also provides towage services at Port Latta, Whyalla, Abbot Point, Wyndham and Geelong.
