Incredible success for Shipping Australia Queensland Gala Night!

By Shipping Australia

Shipping Australia Queensland hosted a fabulous and glamorous Gala Night at The Gabba – the home of the Brisbane Lions, Brisbane Heat and Queensland Cricket – late last week.

Jaz Mir, who is Shipping Australia’s Queensland Chairman, addressed the guests. “It’s a true honour to stand before you as we come together to celebrate the achievements of our vibrant industry. I’d like to begin by expressing my sincere gratitude to all of you for your unwavering support and dedication to Shipping Australia and the wider maritime community.

“Shipping remains the backbone of our economy and trade, and, as we look to the future, I am confident we will continue to innovate and seize new opportunities. We are fortunate to have a community as dedicated and forward-thinking as this – one that pushes boundaries, enhances efficiency, and embraces sustainability.

“The future of shipping is filled with promise. With technological advancements, shifting global trade patterns, and an increasing focus on environmental responsibility, we are on the verge of a new era for our industry. We are committed to leading these changes, adapting and thriving in this evolving landscape,” he told guests.

Master of Ceremonies for the evening was Australian Football League rules player, Simon Black, who played in midfield for the Brisbane Lions from 1998 until 2013. Mr Black was the recipient of many medals for excellence and sportsmanship during his playing career. He entertained guests with his reflections on life and amusing anecdotes from his career.

Approximately 250 people attended the event and there were several recipients of “Lucky Door” raffle prizes, as is traditional at Shipping Australia events.

Donation to the Mission to Seafarers

A highlight of the night was the announcement the profit from the event, AUD$15,000,  would be donated to the local branch of the Mission to Seafarers!

A representative of the Mission explained that the Shipping Australia donation would be used to cover the cost of operating a 12-seater Toyota Hilux that the Mission had previously bought. The  Mission urged every person to bear in mind the situation of seafarers and to stop by the Mission to find out more about what they do.

An event of this nature simply would not have been possible without the generous support of our sponsors.

A heartfelt THANK YOU to:
